After defeating Pok, Drake tails the courier to the Hung Fook Casino Palace, where it turns out he lost the Soul Portal Artifact in a gambling match. There, Drake attempts to find the courier, but is attacked by the casino's owner Pok and his demon dogs. The gods, annoyed once more at Drake's lack of competence, bring him back to life and send him to the House of the Dreaming Cloud casino. Drake shoots at him, but is killed in a sudden explosion. He pursues a courier and follows his blood trail to a fireworks factory. They give him a new body and return him to the mortal realm. They inform him that he must collect more souls for the Undying Dragon and recover the Soul Portal Artifact in order to avenge his Master's death. He then awakens in the Spirit Realm, and is scolded by the four Spirit Gods. When the powers go to Drake's head, he leaps out a window and falls to his death. He explores the penthouse and collects thirty souls of his fallen comrades and enemies. The tattoo glows, and Drake unleashes the abilities to run up walls, slow down time, and freeze time.

In a flashback, Drake is given the tattoo of the Undying Dragon by The Master, which provides him with supernatural powers as well as immortality. Shocked, Drake collapses, and the tattoo on his chest glows. He returns to the Master's chamber, only to find the corpses of himself, the Master, and the other members of his clan. Drake then pursues the assassin, but is unable to stop the villain when he phases out of a window of the penthouse. The assassin is in cahoots with Tang, a businessman and the clan's mortal enemy. He enters the chamber containing the Soul Portal Artifact, given to the clan over 3000 years ago, battling enemies before a mysterious Ghost Assassin swoops out of the room with the artifact. While training in the Kwoon, he hears a break in.

In the PC version, however, an aiming reticle is used.ĭrake is the premier assassin of a Hong Kong based clan known as the 99 Dragons. You might notice that some of gaming history's most infamous bad games- E.T., Shaq-Fu, Bubsy 3D, etc- are missing from this list. That said, it's easy to pass the buck to publishers or other outside forces when a game goes sour, but there are plenty of times where a developer had all the chances in the world to pull a project together and simply failed to do so, by nobody's fault but their own. When a game reaches the status of being among the worst of all time, there's little ambiguity- generally, the games seem unfinished, lack the basic elements of an enjoyable gameplay experience, and feel as though they were thrown together by developers who had no passion for the project and/or were forced to work on it under rushed, limiting conditions. On a gamer-to-gamer basis, a game might not click for a variety of reasons, some of which are difficult to define. While the internet is fond of reducing all video games- and most media products- to being either awesome or terrible, there are a relatively small percentage of games that have been released throughout history that are truly and objectively bad. Maybe there are some people out there who might have a fondness for these games- the worst-reviewed in the history of Metacritic- but it's hard to imagine that it's out of anything other than being able to laugh at how utterly bad the games are.
